Moonshot AI's open-source program is genuinely full-stack: open-weight model releases (Kimi-K3, branded "Open Frontier Intelligence," and the smaller Kimi-K2.5) sit alongside the lower-level infrastructure that makes serving them efficient — FlashKDA, custom CUDA kernels for Kimi's own "Delta Attention" mechanism, and MoonEP, an expert-parallelism library for balancing load across a mixture-of-experts model via dynamic redundant experts.
On top of that sits checkpoint-engine, middleware for swapping model weights in a live inference engine without a full restart, and kimi-code, a coding-agent CLI (already past 8,000 stars) that mirrors the same developer-agent pattern OpenAI (Codex) and Anthropic (Claude Code) have built around their own models. Releasing the attention kernels and parallelism layer in the open, not just the model weights, is a meaningfully deeper level of openness than most labs practice — it lets others actually reproduce Kimi's efficiency claims rather than take them on faith.
