Google's open-source footprint across its AI-relevant orgs (TensorFlow, Google DeepMind, Google Research) is still led by TensorFlow itself — over 201,000 stars and still getting fresh commits a decade-plus into its life, even as most new research code elsewhere has moved to PyTorch-based stacks. Alongside that legacy flagship, DeepMind's most recently touched repos lean heavily toward robotics and physical simulation: MuJoCo Playground for sim-and-real robot demos, and a lower-profile "reaf-sim" simulation framework for real robot workflows.
The outlier is TORAX, a DeepMind-built tokamak fusion-reactor transport simulator written in JAX — a reminder that DeepMind's science-for-good research line extends well past language and vision models into physics simulation most AI labs never touch. Google Research's own recent repos (swirl-dynamics, a dynamical-systems modeling toolkit; nodesyn) are smaller and more niche by comparison, suggesting the more actively maintained work right now sits with DeepMind's robotics and science teams rather than Google Research's general ML group.
